This very picturesque hotel is located near the Monastery Arkadi on the western Crete, 10 km from the City of Rethymnon and from the coast. Kapsaliania was an ancient farm estate it was restored 2007 to a small 5-Star-Hotel. The privately owned Olive Press has been transformed into a lounge area for guests, complete with fireplace, comfortable armchairs and sofas, TV corner, books and magazines. There is also a large outdoor swimming pool for guests to swim, sunbathe and enjoy cool drinks and snacks from the bar. The reception includes a small shop with a small Lounge and gift-shop selling local handicrafts. Four new houses have been created to the same architecture as the original ancient houses. I was very impressed from the garden squares, scents of pine and lavender and jasmine. Amidst an unspoiled scenery, this refuge is indeed a heavenly experience. |

The hotel is located directly on a sandy beach above the Bay of Istron (600 metres wide). It is about 800 metres to the little village of Istron which on foot can only be reached via the coastal road. The hotel is therefore very quiet and not everyone‘s cup of tea. A hire car is essential. |

The country hotel Areti is located in Aptera/Kalives (north eastern from Chania) overlooking the Souda Bay and only 1 km from the archeological ruins of Aptera. The Aptera ruins stem from various eras and are located on a plateau. You can see traces of the Mycenae, Dorians, ancient Greeks, a Roman cistern and part of the ancient town wall. This plateau was popular with conquerors over the centuries as a vantage point over the Souda Bay. In the village itself are five tavernas. The most beautiful town in Crete, Chania, is about 12 km away. The quaint village of Kalives with its wonderful sandy beach, coffee houses, tavernas and shops is only 5 km away. The nearest beach is Kalami Beach which is 1.5 km away and has two tavernas. |
